Dandruff is one menace that is irritating, embarrassing and can be quite uncomfortable too. It is a scalp condition that causes an itchy scalp, hair fall and white flakes.
Though it is non-contagious, there are several factors that may cause dandruff, ranging from mild to severe.
Severe dandruff may also lead to acne on the scalp and face, and leave the hair dull and lifeless, taking away its shine and health.
Although many over-the-counter lotions and liquids are available to help subside dandruff, nothing works better than home or herbal remedies, consisting of products mostly found in the kitchen.
Here's a look at some remedies that work fast, offer instant results and are cost-effective too:
Aloe Vera GelAloe Vera has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties that fight dandruff. The gel also leaves a cooling effect on the scalp and moisturises it. It fights the fungi and bacteria that cause dandruff and also leave the hair healthy. Apply freshly extracted Aloe Vera gel on to the scalp and rinse off well after half an hour.
Coconut Oil & YogurtPlain yogurt is an effective remedy for curing dandruff. Mixed with coconut oil, this mask instantly gets rid of most dandruff flakes and leaves the hair soft with a natural shine. Depending on the length of your hair, mix 3-4 tablespoons of plain yogurt with warm coconut oil. Make sure it is not runny and is just a thick mixture. Apply on the scalp and hair. Massage gently for three minutes and leave for half an hour. Wash off with a gentle shampoo.
Aspirin when combined with your regular shampoo is known to provide relief from dandruff and itching. Crush three or four aspirin tablets and mix into your shampoo. Massage the scalp well with it, and leave on for five to ten minutes. Wash off and follow with your regular conditioner.
