Marisa Abela’s Black Fringe Midi Dress at the Albies: Outfit Details

Marisa Abela kept things dark and dramatic at this year’s Albie Awards. The British actress, who plays Yasmin in HBO’s Industry and led the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, arrived at London’s Natural History Museum on October 9 in a sheer black fringe dress.

The midi dress had a see-through mesh bodice with a V-neckline, worn over a black bra top. Little dark embellishments were scattered across the fabric, and the fringe got thicker toward the skirt, so by the hem it fell in heavy layers. Long strands of fringe also hung down from the shoulders like sleeves, and they swung every time she moved.

The accessories had a bit of an edge. She wore a wide black leather choker that sat close to her neck, with a metal ring and a small pendant hanging from the middle. Her shoes were black open-toe heels with thin straps, worn over sheer black tights. It’s an unusual mix with an evening dress, but it worked here. Her long dark hair was left loose and parted down the middle, falling past her shoulders in soft, straight layers.

The Albies are the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s yearly awards, named after Justice Albie Sachs and started by George and Amal Clooney in 2022. This was the fifth year, with Graham Norton hosting. Honourees included photojournalist Lynsey Addario, Malawian girls’ rights advocate Vanessa Mwangala and the Congolese organisation Justice Plus. Marisa was joined on the guest list by Brad Pitt, Isla Fisher, Emma Thompson, Laura Dern and Hannah Waddingham.

She isn’t new to a black dress. Earlier this year she wore a sleek black Prada gown to the BAFTA TV Awards, with a bright emerald collar.
