France then saw two more goals from Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe which secure the World Cup trophy for France, though Croatia's Mandzukic got one goal more.

In the second half of the match, a Russian punk band 'Pussy Riot' invaded the pitch, but were carried off by the police.

Presidents of the two countries watched the thrilling final alongside the President of Russia and the President of FIFA, and millions of fans and followers watched the match throughout the world.

This marks France's second Football World Cup victory, having previously won the Football World Cup Trophy in 1998.
