Luxury fashion house Chanel paid homage to its late Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away last month at the age of 85, losing the battle to pancreatic cancer. Presenting his last Chanel collection at the Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019, Karl's muses walked down the ramp, decorated on a Alpine theme, fitting to Karl's roots.
Showcased at the Grand Palais in Paris, the show held a one-minute silence as a tribute to the fashion maestro, which was then broken by the sound of his voice. Kaia Gerber, Penelope Cruz and Cara Delevingne were among the models who walked the snow covered ramp, while Karl's A-list friends including Kristen Stewart, Marion Cotillard, Monica Bellucci, Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer took the front row, showcasing their loyalty to the brand.
Cara Delevingne sashayed down the runway, opening the show, clad in a plaid jumpsuit with a plunging neckline, accessorized by a number of Chanel Fine Jewelry necklaces, a hat and a waist-cinching skinny belt. Comforting models who teared up on the runway, Cara stole the limelight at the show, oozing Chanel's signature sophistication.
Penelope Cruz was angelic on the runway, clad in a fluffy white skirt and matching top, holding a white rose in her hand as a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld. Model of the moment Kaia Gerber was a beautiful vision styled in a white mini dress featuring a fluffy white skirt and an embellished top styled with white platform sneakers.
Monochrome hues with pops of pink, caramel and blue were seen on the runway along with moon boots and padded jackets, and even the signature Chanel handbag got a shearling twist. With alpine lodges built and bare trees covered in snow on the runway, and guests instructed not to wear heels, Chanel's tweeds and houndstooth designs carried on Karl Lagerfeld's legacy forward, which will no doubt continue to live on for years to come.
