Meghan and Harry welcome baby boy!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced the birth of their first child, a baby boy. The announcement came via the couple's Instagram account as opposed to the traditional announcement given by Buckingham Palace. The announcement quotes that their Royal Highnesses are 'overjoyed', and a beaming Prince Harry talked to the media from Windsor, saying that "I'm very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning, a very healthy baby boy. I'm so incredibly proud of my wife."

Meghan Markle went into labor in the early hours of the morning, and Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry was by the Duchess's side during the labor. The baby's sex was a surprise for the couple who chose not to find out what they are having until after the birth. Born at 5:26 am, the healthy baby boy weighs 7lbs 3oz and will be seventh in line to the throne.

The baby boy was born well past his due date and photos of the baby boy will be released in the coming days, possibly through the couple's Instagram account. Baby Sussex is the Queen's eight great-grandchild and will have both an American and a British nationality. He will also possibly have an American name and it is said that Meghan is keen on hiring an American nanny.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wed in May last year, and announced their pregnancy to the family in October during the wedding of Princess Eugenie. The mother and the baby are both doing well, and Meghan's mother Doria Ragland is present at the couple's home to offer support in the aftermath of birth.
