Pregnancy Beauty & Skin Changes

Pregnancy is indeed a beautiful journey of a woman's life, and along with it come many changes. Due to the increase in the hormones estrogen and progesterone, your body experiences many physical changes and even emotional ones. Some changes may have added perks to them such as bigger breasts and some women even get glowing and flawless skin, while other women may experience dull skin and hair fall.

Every woman is different and so is her pregnancy journey. The changes a woman experiences may be dramatic and sudden, and not always glamorous. Some women suffer from terrible fatigue, while for others it is a smooth ride.

Here are some of the beauty and skin changes a woman goes through during her pregnancy. These include the nice ones and others not so nice. Nevertheless, every woman is precious and so is her pregnancy, and ultimately the health of the mother and the baby should be the priority.

Pregnancy Acne

The increase and influx of hormones causes the skin to produce more oil, which can lead to clogged pores and acne breakouts. Pregnancy acne can be experienced as early as the first month of pregnancy, and for some it can continue even after giving birth. A good skincare routine is essential to prevent and reduce pregnancy acne. If the problem persists and gets worse, it is advised to consult a good dermatologist who will suggest pregnancy-safe solutions for acne prone skin.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are line-shaped lesions that affect almost all pregnant women as the skin is stretched when your body grows to accommodate your developing baby. Prominent on the belly, breasts and thighs, these marks may get from light to dark, and for some women they are not much of a problem but for others can get worse. A lot of ways are known to prevent and decrease stretch marks. These lesions are not only associated with pregnancy but anyone who experiences sudden weight loss or gain, can develop stretch marks.

Linea Nigra

Also known as the pregnancy line, the Linea Nigra is a dark vertical line which goes down from your belly button to your pubic area. As melanin production increases during pregnancy, this line darkens usually during the second trimester. After the birth of the baby, the line usually fades on its own, but for others it may not. There are many natural ways to lighten the linea nigra, but some may resort to skin lightening creams if they are not breastfeeding.

Lustrous Hair

One of the most popular pregnancy perks is lustrous hair. Some women experience glossy and thick hair as compared to before they were pregnant. Due to pregnancy hormones the rate of hair loss slows down, making your hair look thicker and voluminous. After delivery, when your hormones return to normal, the hair fall returns, and it will seem that your hair has become dull. To prevent the hair loss, a diet consisting of biotin, vitamin C and a blend of amino acids should be taken.

Extra Body Hair

While your mane of hair may be getting lustrous and voluminous, you may experience extra hair growth on your body including your abdomen, face, nipples and perhaps even your back. This extra hair growth eases down six months postpartum, but during pregnancy, if the extra hair growth irks you, you can opt for traditional hair removal methods such as waxing and shaving.
