Dua Lipa to make Acting Debut in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie

As anticipated, Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie film have confirmed a long-running rumor, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are not the only Barbie and Ken dolls in the film. Pop superstar Dua Lipa will make her acting debut alongside Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, and others playing Barbie variations, while Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans are set to play Ken variations. After the official Barbie movie account followed the pop star Dua Lipa on Instagram last year, there was a rumor going around that the superstar had a role in the film. Some rumors also go around, that perhaps Dua has recorded the movie’s theme song, though this has yet to be confirmed.

The Barbie movie posters have a running theme, that each Barbie actor plays a version of Barbie with a distinct profession. Dua Lipa’s Barbie is a mermaid, Issa Rae‘s Barbie is president, Nicola Coughlan‘s Barbie is a diplomat, whereas all Ken actors simply play Ken. The character posters also show Helen Mirren as the narrator, Will Ferrell as a Mattel CEO, and Michael Cera as Allan for the first time. Although the entire cast has now been revealed, the plot of the “Barbie” movie is still a mystery. The movie is set to premiere on July 21st in theaters.
