Max Mara Pre-Fall 2023 Lookbook pays ode to Marilyn Monroe
Embrace Old Hollywood glam with Max Mara's Iconoclassics Collection, inspired by Marilyn Monroe's year of joy.
Italian fashion brand Max Mara has recently released its Pre-Fall 2023 Collection, called The Iconoclassics, as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe, the iconic actress. This collection is inspired by the year described in Elizabeth Winder's book "Marilyn in Manhattan: Her Year of Joy", where Marilyn educated herself and connected with writers and intellectuals, including her future husband, Arthur Miller. The brand explores how modern-day Marilyn would dress, bringing in looks such as curvy jeans, jackets, and overalls always cinched with masculine belts, as well as sheath dresses, full skirts, and an iconic 101801 coat in techno-mesh.
One of the most prominent pieces in the collection is the camel coat, reminiscent of the one in which Marilyn was photographed on the subway. These coats were originally symbols of masculine power, but Max Mara has redefined them as symbols of women's empowerment. The brand presents two styles drawn from the earliest examples in the historic Max Mara Archive, including a belted wrap coat in camel-colored cashmere and an unlined double-breasted cappottino, masterfully tailored for lightness.
The Max Mara Teddy Bear Coat, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2023, is another iconic piece deserving of recognition. The brand marks the occasion with a re-edition of the classic coat in a new makeup shade, as well as a new addition to the family called 'Teddy Teddino', which is a fluffy take on the jeans jacket. William Wegman, a celebrated artist, features his famous Weimaraners wearing the cult coat on the collectible commemorative T-shirt.
