MM6 MAISON MARGIELA, the renowned fashion house, has recently revealed its highly anticipated Avant Première Spring/Summer 2024 Collection. This collection pushes the boundaries of ordinary fashion, infusing each piece with subtle details and artistic gestures, ultimately transforming them into extraordinary garments. The collection seamlessly combines haute couture techniques with simple fabrics, resulting in a harmonious blend of simplicity and elegance. From dresses and coats to fitted jackets, ruched necklines create voluminous silhouettes reminiscent of early 20th-century fashion houses. A notable highlight is the use of silver Tyvek, an industrial material, in crafting an asymmetrically ruffled prom dress—a clever nod to both industrial clothing and the distinct studios of Pop artists.
In a deliberate departure from flashy materials, this genderless collection prioritizes comfort and ease. The use of brushed sweat jersey throughout the collection, featured in wide-leg denim jeans, roomy pants, hoodies, and sweatshirts, instills a casual and laid-back vibe. Familiar pieces undergo stunning transformations, such as jacquard knits being patchworked to create roll-neck vest tops, and jackets with their lapels cut off, leaving the raw edges exposed. Tailored and denim coats showcase waist cuts, while padded gilet linings lend an otherworldly appearance, seemingly floating above the body. The return of a soft-edged polka dot print, now adorning long dresses in shades of blue, turquoise, and bright green, adds a touch of nostalgia. Furthermore, classic t-shirts are elevated with witty and practical digital prints of zippers resembling those found on baggy jeans, transforming them into captivating statement pieces.
The collaboration between MM6 and French sportswear brand Salomon continues to flourish, now in its fourth season. In a fresh interpretation, the Xt-4 all-terrain shoes are reimagined as open-back mules, merging style and functionality. The canvas boot, initially inspired by a demilitarized German army design, is given a distinctive twist by emphasizing the boot's edges, resulting in a truly unique footwear offering.
In addition to MM6's iconic designs, the Avant Première Collection introduces never-before-seen details inspired by the past. The signature number plate, symbolic of the brand, makes a triumphant return as a metal closure or stamping on bags and small leather goods. One standout piece is the Numeric shoulder bag, featuring a triangular shape and a flap closure adorned with the brand's distinctive metal number plate. Available in black, sage green, and lime green leather, the bag comes in large, medium, and small sizes, catering to different style preferences.
The collection's lookbook was skillfully captured by fashion photographer Johanna Laitanen, showcasing the striking aesthetic on model Luukas Niskanen. The impeccable styling by Anna Pesonen, complemented by the expert casting direction from Arthur Méjean, further emphasizes the avant-garde spirit and creative vision of MM6 MAISON MARGIELA's Avant Première Spring/Summer 2024 Collection.
