Paris Haute Couture Week Kicks Off Amidst Turmoil: Alaïa Show Shines in Extraordinary Setting
Experience Paris Haute Couture Week’s thrilling start amidst chaos, featuring Alaïa Show’s dazzling display in a stunning setting.
Against the backdrop of five nights of violence and unrest in France, the off-calendar fashion shows on the eve of Paris Haute Couture Week faced uncertainty and security concerns. While Celine's show and party were canceled due to the prevailing situation, two other fashion houses proceeded with their shows. Patou debuted Guillaume Henry's latest collection at the Wagram concert hall, while Alaïa took a bold step by transforming the pedestrian runway of Léopold-Sédar-Senghor into a temporary podium set against the scenic backdrop of the Seine River.
Despite the tension in the air, Alaïa's show proved to be an exquisite display of beauty. The guests, including singer Rita Ora and fashion icon Anna Wintour, were treated to a moment of refined elegance as they witnessed Pieter Mulier's collection unfold. The concept of 'quiet luxury' permeated the timeless and sophisticated designs, celebrating noble fabrics and showcasing powerful elegance. Leather took center stage, adorning long coats, short jackets, pencil skirts, corset-style tops, and structured dresses. The accessories, such as long gloves and minimalist handbags, added to the understated glamour.
Mulier's collection paid homage to the late Azzedine Alaïa, capturing the designer's precise lines and unique style. The garments enveloped and sublimated women's bodies, accentuating curves and creating elegant silhouettes. The collection embraced sobriety with touches of sensuality through transparent fabrics, latex dresses, sweetheart necklines, and high-waisted bodies. A neutral color palette of white, black, and various shades of brown was complemented by pops of mustard, orange, light blue, and red. Classic collars, fur stoles, and pillbox-style headpieces added a traditional touch.
With Mulier making a memorable appearance, the show garnered applause from the captivated audience. The cast of models, including Irina Shayk, Mariacarla Boscono, and Vittoria Ceretti, gathered beneath the bridge on one of the quays, creating a truly extraordinary and unforgettable experience amidst the uncertain social context of Paris Haute Couture Week.
