Carolina Herrera Spring Summer 2024 Fashion Show

Carolina Herrera's Spring Summer 2024 collection, masterminded by the creative force Wes Gordon, embarked on a delightful journey down memory lane, paying homage to the captivating fashion of 1990s New York City. Gordon's mood board, adorned with images of style icons such as Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and Gwyneth Paltrow, stood as a testament to the lasting influence of that era on today's fashion landscape.

Gordon's vision for this collection sought to capture the essence of the '90s, not through minimalism, but by embracing a wardrobe-based approach. He championed the idea that clean lines need not equate to dullness; instead, they can radiate femininity, energy, confidence, and wit. With this guiding philosophy, he curated a Carolina Herrera collection that embraced a more linear, streamlined aesthetic for Spring Summer 2024.

The presentation took place on the ground floor of the Renzo Piano-designed Whitney Museum, adding an extra layer of sophistication. The venue's polished gray concrete and expansive glass walls provided an elegant backdrop for Gordon's metropolitan vision.

In his quest for a more refined interpretation of the house's romantic codes, Gordon eliminated unnecessary seams and concentrated on practical pieces. The show began with an homage to the timeless Carolina Herrera and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy look—a black pencil skirt paired with a crisp white cotton shirt, accompanied by kitten-heel slingbacks.

Elongated silk blazers, cinched at the side over slips, beautifully encapsulated the ease and elegance of the '90s, as did a strapless black silk top paired with wide-leg pants, epitomizing chic simplicity.

The resurgence of hot pants this season found its place in Herrera's collection as well. Gordon's take featured lavender floral knit hot pants, matched with a coordinating cardigan for a playful yet sophisticated ensemble. Embracing the transparency trend, he introduced a shimmering black embroidered lace pencil skirt and black briefs, juxtaposed with a prim lilac twin set and flat shoes, striking a harmonious balance between sultry and demure.

While party dresses have always been a cornerstone of the Carolina Herrera brand, this season witnessed a departure from embellishments in favor of form. Gordon introduced designs like a black and lavender stripe micro-pleated tulle ballgown that billowed gracefully, reminiscent of a beach umbrella, and bustier dresses adorned with micro-pleated tulle cage skirts. These creations represent the perfect fusion of nostalgia and modernity, honoring the brand's rich history while celebrating the contemporary spirit of fashion.
