Renowned actress Kate Winslet captivates as the cover star in the October 2023 edition of American Vogue Magazine, in a captivating photoshoot by the celebrated fashion and celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz. Kate Winslet, a versatile talent in the world of cinema, has recently ventured into film production with the British biographical drama "Lee." This marks the directorial debut of Ellen Kuras, with a screenplay co-authored by Liz Hannah, John Collee, and Marion Hume, based on a narrative by Hume, Collee, and Lem Dobbs. The film is an adaptation of Antony Penrose's 1985 book, "The Lives of Lee Miller," with Kate Winslet portraying the iconic war journalist, Lee Miller. The movie explores Lee's transformation from a 1920s New York City fashion model to a renowned fashion and fine art photographer in Paris, culminating in her harrowing experiences as a war correspondent for Vogue during World War II, capturing pivotal moments such as the London Blitz, Paris' liberation, and the haunting scenes at concentration camps in Buchenwald and Dachau. "Lee" made its global debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2023.

Reflecting on her role as Lee Miller, Kate Winslet shares, "Lee was a woman who lived her life on her terms and she paid a horrific emotional price for all of it. I wanted to tell the story of a flawed middle-aged woman who went to war and documented it."

In the interview, Kate Winslet also opens up about her dedication to authenticity, both in her acting and in recreating the famous photograph Miller took of a group of friends picnicking topless. She embraced her natural physique, stating, "You know I had to be really brave about letting my body be its softest version of itself and not hiding from that. And believe me, people amongst our own team would say, 'You might just want to sit up a bit.' And I'd go, 'Why? [Because of] the bit of flesh you can see? No, that's the way it's going to be!'"

Kate Winslet further addresses the challenges she's faced in a male-dominated industry, where male investors often underestimated her projects. She candidly shares, "The men who think you want and need their help are unbelievably outraging. I've even had a director say to me: 'Listen, you do my film and I'll get your little Lee funded…' Little! Or we'd have potential male investors saying things like: 'Tell me, why am I supposed to like this woman?'" Kate Winslet's unwavering determination continues to pave the way for change in the industry.
