Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2024 Fashion Show

Nine months have passed since the world bid farewell to the legendary British designer and fashion icon, Dame Vivienne Westwood. Her legacy lives on, cherished by her devoted friends, family, and her widower, Andreas Kronthaler. Kronthaler, who has long overseen the label's design, paid a heartfelt tribute to his late partner with a collection that was both a celebration and a testament to her enduring influence.

For the Spring/Summer 2024 season, Kronthaler delved into Westwood's rebellious and eclectic wardrobe, meticulously cataloging her iconic outfits and recreating them in a collection of 39 remarkable looks. The show, titled "43 Old Town," began with a live musical performance that set the stage for what was to come.

As the first model graced the runway, the dimly lit venue burst into life, reminiscent of Westwood's famous Inferno Jacket from the Fall/Winter 2004/05 collection. Each subsequent look paid homage to a different facet of Westwood's distinctive style. The fifth model flaunted a voluminous dress paired with an elongated and ribboned headpiece, drawing inspiration from the designer's FW09 collection. Number 13 made a striking entrance, cloaked in a hooded cape and silk Jacquard dress, complete with black sunglasses and vibrant red lip stains.

The pièce de résistance came with the 30th ensemble, a breathtaking revival of Westwood's "Storm In a Teacup" collection. A raffia lace dress adorned in gilded hues featured an integrated veil, capturing the essence of the designer's unparalleled creativity.

The final two garments transported us to the early 2010s, with a duo of Infanta dresses dipped in pure white, reminiscent of SS12's "War & Peace" collection. The collection received a well-deserved and prolonged standing ovation, a fitting tribute to the enduring love between Kronthaler and Westwood, as well as their unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of fashion.
