Givenchy Fall Winter 2024-25 Fashion Show

Givenchy's latest Fall/Winter collection, showcased at Paris Fashion Week FW24, is an ode to the brand's enduring legacy of sophistication and signature Hollywood glamour. The collection pays tribute to founder Hubert de Givenchy, and combines timeless couture heritage with contemporary twists, marking a transitional phase after creative director Matthew M. Williams' departure. The collection was debuted against the iconic backdrop of Avenue George V's historic salons, and the runway offered a spell-binding array of cocktail and evening ensembles, reminiscent of the golden age of haute couture.

The collection sensationally merged  classic silhouettes with contemporary flair, which echoed the refined sophistication synonymous with Audrey Hepburn. Seen on the models were wing coats, draped pencil skirts, and chic little black dresses which further paid homage to the brand's couture heritage, while also offering a refreshing new take of enduring styles.

While the runway was a celebration of the past, it also embraced the spirit of modernity. Graphic necklines and hemlines that flirted above the knee injected youthful energy into the collection. An '80s influence also threw a splash of retro chic, evident in plush furs and sharply tailored jackets with structured shoulders.

Noteworthy was the emphasis on tailoring, showcasing Givenchy's impeccable craftsmanship. Long coats crafted from herringbone wool and navy jacquard stole the limelight, and served as an example of the brand's commitment to precision and detail. The couture atelier displayed its prowess with crystallized bustier dresses, feather-adorned coats, and draped column dresses, each embodying deceptive simplicity and refined elegance.

Though there was an undeniable mastery in each ensemble, on the runway lingered a sense of something amiss – a spark longing for a visionary direction. In the absence of a strong creative lead post-Williams, Givenchy's craftsmanship and design prowess shone brightly, but the runway yearned for that transformative touch to set it ablaze.
