Alia Bhatt Wore a Hand-Painted Couture Gown at Cannes 2026
Alia Bhatt wore a hand-painted couture gown by Yash Patil and Basuri Chokshi at Cannes 2026, inspired by the French Riviera.
Alia Bhatt delivered one of her most enchanting fashion moments yet at Cannes 2026, stepping out in a custom couture gown that looked like wearable art against the backdrop of the French Riviera.
The dreamy dress was designed by artist Yash Patil and featured hand-painted artwork by Basuri Chokshi, with styling by Rhea Kapoor bringing the entire vision together beautifully. Inspired by iconic 1950s silhouettes and the charm of the French Riviera, the gown felt soft, cinematic, and incredibly romantic from every angle.
The bodice featured delicate spaghetti straps and a structured sweetheart neckline with subtle painted detailing in muted green tones. From there, the gown opened into a dramatic full skirt covered in watercolor-inspired artwork that resembled a sunlit Riviera landscape. Soft blues, pale greens, hints of lavender, and warm pastel shades blended together across the fabric, creating the effect of an impressionist painting in motion.
What made the look stand out even more was how personal and artistic it felt. Rather than relying on heavy embellishment or sparkle, the gown focused on craftsmanship and storytelling. Every brushstroke across the skirt added depth and softness, while the voluminous silhouette gave it that timeless couture drama associated with classic fashion from the 1950s.
Rhea Kapoor kept the styling intentionally minimal, allowing the gown to remain the focal point. Alia paired the dress with understated earrings, neutral-toned heels, and fresh glowing makeup. Her softly pinned-back hairstyle added to the vintage-inspired mood without making the overall look feel costume-like.
Against the Cannes coastline and bright blue skies, the gown almost looked painted into the scenery itself. It was elegant without trying too hard, artistic without becoming overwhelming, and one of those rare red carpet looks that feels memorable because of the emotion behind it.
