Bhavitha Mandava in Chanel Resort 2027 mermaid gown at Venice Film Festival

Bhavitha Mandava made a breathtaking statement at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, stepping onto the red carpet in one of the most intricate looks of the season. The rising Indian model wore the spectacular closing look from Chanel Resort 2027, designed by creative director Matthieu Blazy, for the premiere of Mr Nelson, Did You Kill People?.

The 26-year-old model, who has quickly become one of fashion's exciting new names, brought the collection's dramatic “mermaid dress” to life in shades of shimmering turquoise, seafoam and iridescent blue. The fitted gown featured an extraordinary embroidered surface designed to resemble glistening scales, while layers of textured flounces created movement around the waist, hips and hem. The back was equally striking, with a deep open design framed by cascading ruffles.

There was some serious craftsmanship behind the beautiful gown. According to recent fashion coverage, the dress featured 30,000 domed heart-shaped sequins and another 96,000 oval sequins across its flounced details, with Chanel's Lesage atelier reportedly spending 1,250 hours on the embroidery. Bhavitha completed the look with statement gold-tone and red resin earrings and a blue-and-green sequined camellia brooch.

Her footwear was partially visible beneath the mermaid-style hem, while her sleek, straight black hair was worn down with a sharp centre parting. Keeping the beauty look polished and understated allowed the dazzling couture creation to remain the main attraction.

The appearance was another major milestone for Mandava, who made history earlier this year as the first Indian model to open a Chanel show. Her Venice look also carried the seaside inspiration of Blazy's Resort 2027 collection into an unforgettable red-carpet moment.
