e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush in Cheeky Lychee Review: Is It Really That Good?

I have a weakness for a good liquid blush, especially one that can make me look more awake in about 30 seconds. That is probably why I kept coming back to the e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush in Cheeky Lychee. It is one of those makeup products that looks fairly simple in the tube but makes a surprisingly big difference once it is on the cheeks.

Cheeky Lychee is a fresh, neutral pink that gives the skin that pretty, slightly flushed look I usually want from blush. It does not feel overly warm or orange, and I find it particularly easy to wear when I am keeping the rest of my makeup simple. A little mascara, brushed-up brows, lip balm and this blush is pretty much my idea of an easy everyday face.

The First Thing I Noticed

The pigmentation is seriously impressive for an $8 blush. My first instinct was to apply it like a traditional liquid blush, but that was definitely too much. I quickly learned that one tiny dot on each cheek is usually enough for a natural flush.

I like to tap it onto the cheeks with my fingers and then soften the edges with a makeup sponge. It blends quickly and leaves the skin looking fresh rather than flat. If I am going out and want something more noticeable, I simply add another tiny layer.

The finish is another reason I understand the hype. It has a soft, dewy appearance that works particularly well with the current fresh-skin makeup look. It gives the cheeks some life without making them look glittery.

How Does It Compare With Rare Beauty?

The obvious comparison is Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, because both have become famous for being incredibly pigmented. Rare Beauty is one of those blushes where you really have to respect the tiny applicator and start with almost nothing. One dot can go a surprisingly long way.

The e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush has that same “a little goes a long way” quality, but for me, Cheeky Lychee feels a little more relaxed and effortless. It is also considerably cheaper, which makes it easier to pick up a couple of shades rather than committing to just one.

Rare Beauty still has its own appeal, particularly if you love an intensely pigmented blush and want lots of shade choices. But if you are looking for something affordable that can give you that same statement-cheek effect, e.l.f. makes a very convincing case.

Why I Think It Became a Cult Favorite

For me, the biggest reason is simple: it gives instant results without making makeup feel complicated.

The color payoff is excellent, the finish looks fresh, the formula blends easily once you get used to the pigmentation, and the $8 price makes it incredibly tempting. It is also the kind of product that works for both a barely-there makeup day and a fuller glam look.

That combination is hard to ignore. There are plenty of expensive blushes I enjoy, but I can understand why the e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush keeps getting talked about. Cheeky Lychee is one of those little makeup discoveries that makes you wonder why you ever paid more for the same basic effect.

If you are new to liquid blush, my only advice is to start with the smallest amount possible. Seriously—one tiny dot is enough. You can always build it, but trying to blend away too much blush is a very different story.
