Saint Laurent Introduces the Simone Bag Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s Personal Letters

Saint Laurent is adding a deeply personal touch to its latest accessories lineup with the Simone bag, a new silhouette inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s personal letters and the elegant envelope pouches of the 1970s and 1980s.

Introduced as part of the House’s Winter 2026 collection, Simone takes the familiar envelope shape and turns it into a practical day bag. The result feels sophisticated, however not overly formal, with a clean silhouette that blends effortlessly into Saint Laurent’s elegant and luxe aesthetic.

The bag has a distinctive envelope-shaped flap and delicate double handles, giving it a refined, slightly vintage character. A new Double Cassandre signature sits prominently on the front, adding a dimensional interpretation of the House’s famous YSL emblem.

Available in Medium and Large sizes, Simone has been designed with everyday practicality in mind. Inside, the structured silhouette opens to reveal two compartments along with a zipped pocket, while a magnetic closure keeps the front streamlined.

The larger soft-leather version currently comes in black and features a suede-lined interior, bronze-tone brass hardware and double straps that allow it to be carried comfortably on the shoulder. The bag is crafted in Italy, adding to its luxury appeal.

The inspiration behind Simone is perhaps the most charming part. Rather than looking solely to past handbags, Saint Laurent turned to Yves Saint Laurent’s personal correspondence, translating the intimacy of handwritten letters into a contemporary accessory. The envelope shape becomes a subtle reference to those personal exchanges while remaining completely wearable today.

The new design also fits neatly into Saint Laurent’s current creative direction under Anthony Vaccarello, whose Winter 2026 collection brings together sharp tailoring, sensual textures, lace and signature House codes. The Simone adds another layer to that mix, balancing structure with softness.

The Double Cassandre detail is another important connection to the House’s history. The intertwined YSL initials were created by graphic designer Cassandre in 1961 and have remained one of Saint Laurent’s most recognizable signatures.

With its clean lines, envelope-inspired construction and personal connection to the founder, the Simone feels less like a simple new handbag and more like a modern accessory with a story behind it.
