Carey Mulligan Shimmers in Silver Pleated Celine at the “Wildwood” World Premiere in London
Carey Mulligan wore a silver pleated Celine SS27 dress with Jessica McCormack jewels to the Wildwood world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.
Carey Mulligan turned up to the world premiere of “Wildwood” looking like a very elegant disco ball, and we’re here for it. The British actress hit the red carpet at the 70th BFI London Film Festival on October 11, wearing a silvery, pleated look straight from Celine’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection.
The dress was a floor-length column in shimmery, micro-pleated fabric with a soft boat neckline, long sleeves and a little patch pocket on the chest. The sleeves flared out into wide, fluted cuffs that she kept fiddling with for the cameras, and the skirt had an asymmetric, diagonal hem that dropped to a small sparkly charm at the tip. The bottom flared out into a ruffled, fishtail-style hem. In daylight the whole thing flashed between silver and pearly white, which looked great against the red carpet and the woodland-themed greenery behind her.
Jewelry came from Jessica McCormack, with small, delicate earrings and a simple ring keeping the focus on the dress. Danielle Goldberg styled the look, Charlotte Prevel handled makeup, and Fabio Petri did her hair, a soft blonde bob styled into loose, bouncy waves with a side-swept finish. Her makeup was fresh and natural, with a soft pink flush on the cheeks and a neutral lip.
Carey, who’s known for “Promising Young Woman,” “Maestro,” “Saltburn” and “Far From the Madding Crowd,” voices Alexandra in the film, a former governess who has fallen into grief and dark magic. If you want a look at another dramatic fashion moment from her, Carey Mulligan’s Balenciaga mermaid gown at the 2024 Oscars is worth a revisit.
“Wildwood” is the latest stop-motion fantasy from Laika, directed by Travis Knight and based on the 2011 novel by Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis. It follows Prue McKeel and her friend Curtis as they slip into a hidden forest near Portland to rescue Prue’s baby brother, who’s been snatched by crows. The voice cast also includes Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jacob Tremblay, Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Richard E. Grant. It opens in the US on October 23.
She also wore a very different look to the Los Angeles premiere of “Beef” Season 2, and you can see Carey Mulligan in Dries Van Noten at the Beef premiere for a quieter take.
