Charlize Theron in Emerald Fringe Givenchy Gown at Airbnb.org Gala

Charlize Theron showed up to Airbnb.org’s very first gala in a dress that basically moves on its own. It’s an emerald green gown from Givenchy’s Spring 2027 collection, and Sarah Burton designed it. The night was Wednesday, October 28, at Milk Studios in Los Angeles, and Leslie Fremar styled her.

Here’s how the dress works. Up top it’s a halter with a high, shiny collar covered in tiny green sequins, and the back is open. A matching sequined belt sits at the waist. Below that comes the fringe, and a lot of it. Thin strands of silk fall all the way to the ankle, and they swing apart with every step, so you keep catching a high slit up the leg. It’s glossy, bright and a bit retro. Very 1920s, if the 1920s had a good tailor.

Her shoes were the surprise. They’re black open-toe sandals with a slingback strap, and each one has a big spiky black pom-pom stuck across the toes. Odd? Yes. Great against all that green? Also yes. She wore drop earrings with emerald-cut stones, which one outlet says are Jessica McCormack’s Gypset hoops, plus a couple of rings and dark, almost black nail polish. Her hair was a loose, slightly messy blonde updo with a few pieces left out, and her lip was a muted berry. Simple, because the dress was doing so much.

This was Airbnb.org’s first gala. The nonprofit offers free emergency housing to people hit by disasters, illness and other crises. A big crowd came out, including Jessica Alba, Cynthia Erivo, Charli XCX, Matthew McConaughey, Serena Williams and Zoe Saldana.
