7 Fun Things To Do In Berlin As A Business Traveller

Looks like you’ve found yourself preparing for a trip to Berlin! Germany’s capital city is a buzzing metropolis with a rich cultural history and plenty of exciting activities to offer. Once you are done scouting for accommodation in Berlin and finalising your travel arrangements, you will naturally start thinking of how you can enjoy your time in this new city.

To help you make your decision, here are seven unique activities you can do in Berlin as a business traveller.

Try Driving a Trabi

The Trabant or Travi is a small car mostly made out of plastic. It’s slow and noisy, but definitely lots of fun to drive. However, this car is more than just a fun pastime. It’s also a symbol of the former East Germany, back when the city was split in two.

For a seamless transaction, you can get a guide to facilitate the whole experience for you. They can be in charge of getting the Trabi and driving ahead of you in their own car. Throughout the journey, they will occasionally discuss locations of interest as you pass by. It’s a unique twist to the usual city tours.

Get Some Coffee and Fresh Air in Kreuzberg

Coffee lovers, unite! Kreuzberg, Berlin is one of the main cultural centres of the city. It has tons of cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and parks. No matter where you stop by here, you will definitely enjoy how the residents and businesses of the area have decided to express themselves in their unique artistic ways.

If you are looking for a little nightlife after a stressful day at work, Kreuzberg also has some great bars and clubs you can go to.

Have a Picnic and Stroll Through Grosser Tiergarten

The Tiergarten Park is spread across 200 hectares of land. It is Berlin’s Central Park. It is also one of the oldest and biggest public parks in the city. You can come here for a leisurely picnic or for a quick look at the country’s culture and history.

Tiergarten Park was constructed in the late 17th century. However, it has gone through multiple redesigns according to the personal preferences of whoever was governing at that time. In World War II, the park was destroyed and in 1945, it suffered a bout of deforestation. Thankfully, it managed to recover after 1949, when the residents of Germany invested in tree donations for replanting.

Tiergarten Park is also home to several important government institutions, such as the president’s home and the Bundestag, or the German federal Parliament.

Get Your Groceries at Arminius Market Hall

Tired of packed lunches and food deliveries? This is your chance to gather organic ingredients and prepare a home-cooked meal for yourself tonight! The Arminius Market Hall showcases the best of Berlin’s local farms.

If you are not feeling up to the task of cooking for yourself just yet, don’t worry. Arminius Market Hall also serves different cuisines, craft beers, and more. All these exciting products are housed in some of the most stunning buildings in Berlin, with plenty of gothic-style windows and cast iron pillars to keep your eyes busy.

Go to Museum Island

The Museum Island, also known as Museumsinsel Berlin, is a sprawling complex located in the middle of Spree River. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site as well. This place is home to five different museums, each with their own unique contributions to the local art scene. As a whole, they depict the history of Berlin, Byzantium, and Ancient Egypt.

Be warned: you will spend a lot of time walking and looking around, so make sure to bring a bottle of water with you.

See the Animals in the Berlin Zoo

The Berlin Zoo is the oldest zoo in Germany. It has an impressive collection of animals. You definitely won’t run out of sights to see and animals to meet here. The zoo has more than 25,000 animals and the aquarium, which can be visited separately, houses around 13,000 animals.

This is a family-friendly trip for people who want to take a look at all sorts of animals in their natural habitat.

Pose With Your Idols at Madame Tussauds

You won’t need to book a trip to Hollywood when all your idols are in Berlin! Madame Tussauds is just down the road from the famous Brandenburg Gate. It has life-size replicas of international stars, politicians, and celebrities. Examples of the figures in their collection include Queen Elizabeth II, Barack Obama, Justin Bieber, and Marilyn Monroe. And if you are a Star Wars fan, then good news: they’ve got a section for Star Wars as well!

Of course, Madame Tussauds will also feature some German stars alongside these international names.  This makes a trip to the museum a fun and unique way to immerse yourself in the local culture.
