Alta Moda is a new culture of couture by Dolce & Gabbana dating back to 2012. This high-end lifestyle brand hosts annual events at destinations around the world. Fashion aficionados have long sought out the styles that emerged from early Alta Moda presentations at destinations in Italy from 2012 to 2016, followed by destinations around the world.
In 2022, Alta Moda celebrated its 10-year anniversary with an exclusive Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria and Alta Gioielleria presentation as part of the Ikmah Fashion Cavalry Show in Alula, Saudi Arabia. Dolce & Gabbana then exhibited the Alta Moda collection in Maraya, the largest mirrored building in the world from January 28th through 31st. No matter the destination, Alta Moda always captures the essence of Italian couture, domestic artisanship and tailoring traditions.
Globetrotting Style
While Alta Moda started as a means to celebrate Italian artisanship at home, the event now often showcases Italian fashion abroad. From the first show in Taormina Sicily back in 2012 to shows hosted in Hong Kong in 2016, Tokyo and Beijing in 2017 and New York and Mexico City in 2018, followers of Alta Moda can expect to see imaginative fashion in the world's most fascinating locations.
Alta Moda showcases several Dolce & Gabbana collections, including the Alta Moda women's collection, Alta Sartoria men's lines and Alta Gioielleria and Alta Orologeria co-ed collections. Attendees can go to fashion shows held near monuments or areas of interest at the destination.
Exotic Destinations
Alta Moda originated as an event to showcase Italian artistry. The first show in Taormina, Sicily, included 73 designs and began with a launch of Bellini's Bel Canto opera Norma in the ancient Roman amphitheater. The following year, clothes were shown in the frescoed halls of the Palazzo Barbaro in Venice.
This high-end lifestyle brand continues to showcase the beauty and history of its Italian origins. A few especially noteworthy historical destinations that set the scene for fashion shows include La Scala and the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan, Palazzo Vecchio in Florence and, more recently, the Doge's Palace, the Venetian Arsenal, and the Rialto Bridge in Venice.
Beyond Fashion
The Alta Moda brand goes beyond fashion to represent the synthesis of a long legacy of Italian artisanship and global influences. Spectators who follow these shows and the creations that debut in these collections have their fingers on the pulse of global fashion. The aesthetic vision of the designers is evident both in the styles created for these events and the choice of venues.
In recent years, the summer shows in 2020 set in Florence were hosted online under password protection to preserve exclusivity and promote safety. One year later, 400 clients included the 2021 Alta Moda show in Venice in person, which featured a performance of "Nessun Dorma" from Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot by Jennifer Hudson and the arrival of the collection by gondola.
Fashion fans around the world can look forward to seeing the most ornate Dolce & Gabbana ensembles at Alta Moda. From the Alta Moda women's line to Alta Sartoria menswear and the Alta Gioielleria and Alta Orologeria lines for women and men, these couture projects have produced some of the most trendsetting looks at shows held over the past decade and promise to continue to exert an unmistakable influence on fashion for years to come.
