The Grammy Awards are the most prestigious awards for music in the United States. The Recording Academy, which is responsible for the awards, published its nominations in November, and the winners will be announced at the 65th annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, California, on February 5, 2023. The ceremony will be hosted by the comedian, writer, and commentator Trevor Noah. It will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network and streamed live and on-demand on Paramount+.

The Grammys are awarded in a wide range of categories, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Rap Album, Best Country Album, Best Rock Album, and Best Song Written for Visual Media. There are also special honors awarded to those who have achieved something extraordinary in the music industry.

For the second year, we have 10 nominees in each of the Big Four categories (Record, Album, and Song of the Year, and Best New Artist) instead of 8, and in this article, we will focus mainly on these four categories. Record of the Year

Nominees:

Adele is the only artist here who has previously won in this category, and she did it twice. There’s a considerable number of Beyoncé supporters, especially since it’s her 8th nomination in this category, and she’s never won.

However, considering Lizzo’s, Adele’s, and Styles’ previous successes and the popularity of these three records, it’s safe to say that one of them will go home with the Record of the Year award. If we were to expect a little surprise, it would probably be Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit,” described by Billboard as “the perfect pop song for 2022, and more crucially, just a perfect pop song in general.”

Album of the Year

Again, Adele has won Album of the Year with her two previous albums, and again again, she’s the only nominee to do so. However, this year the competition is strong, and Adele is not among those most likely to win.

The skyrocketing popularity of Harry Style places him among the favorites, though it’s Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti that won MTV Artist of the Year and topped Billboard Top 200 for 13 consecutive weeks; it’s also the first Spanish-language album to be featured in this category, and we all know how academies love first-timers.

Many industry experts also point to Beyoncé, considering her album’s excellent reviews and the Academy’s inside fight against snubbing POC artists.

Song of the Year

Nominees:

Taylor Swift should never be underestimated, and we also wouldn’t cross her off the list, but the favorites here are obviously those songs that are also nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, i.e., “About Damn Time,” “As It Was,” “Bad Habit,” and “Easy on Me.”

Many also say that since Taylor Swift is already the favorite of the next year's Grammys (for her album Midnights, released in October, and its leading single, Anti-Hero), the Academy will rather award someone else this year.

Best New Artist

The majority of industry experts and fans alike point to Måneskin as the most likely Best New Artist winner, considering their fast climb to the top charts around the world and incredible popularity in the US. They would also be the first Italian artist to win in the Big Four Category since Domenico Modugno’s win in 1959. And America simply loves these young, rebellious Eurovision winners.

However, Anitta, Muni Long, Samara Joy, Latto, and Molly Tuttle are not to be overlooked, as the Best New Artist category seems to favor female artists (14 female solo winners since 2000). Latto’s “Big Energy” was an incredible hit and even received praise from Mariah Carey. She would also be the third female rapper to win in this category.
