In a surprising announcement, Blake Lively has revealed that she will not be attending the 2023 Met Gala, despite her past attendance at the event and her reputation for delivering show-stopping looks on the red carpet. Blake confirmed the news to People reporters at the reopening of the Tiffany & Co. Fifth Avenue store in NYC, saying, "You will not. But I will be watching."
While many fans may be disappointed not to see Blake's fashion-forward looks at the Met Gala, the actress has other plans. She joked with reporters that she will be watching the event from afar, but not in her pajamas. "Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday," she quipped, referring to her 2022 Met Gala look.
Blake and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, welcomed their fourth child earlier this year, so it's understandable that they have been busy. The actress has always been known for her over-the-top Met Gala outfits, including last year's Versace gown that referenced the Statue of Liberty for the theme "In America: An Anthology of Fashion." Her commitment to the theme even extended to the train of her dress, which featured the iconic constellation ceiling from Grand Central Station - a nod to her iconic character on the hit show "Gossip Girl."
In an interview with Vogue, Blake explained that the location of the Met Gala holds a special place in her heart. "Grand Central felt like a sort of a really neat full-circle moment because the first shot of Gossip Girl, I’m on a train, and I pull into the station, and it’s a shot of Grand Central station," she said. "It’s the love of my life, other than my family." While fans may miss her presence on the red carpet this year, it's clear that Blake has other priorities in her life at the moment.
