Doja Cat Wears a Sheer Spider Web Dress to the 2023 VMAs

Doja Cat never plays it safe on a red carpet, and the 2023 MTV VMAs were no exception.
Back in January, she showed up to Schiaparelli's Paris couture show covered in red body paint and 30,000 Swarovski crystals. So for the VMAs at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday night, a sheer spider web dress was almost low-key by her standards.
The custom white Monse gown was hand-knit in a cobweb design and inspired by artist Louise Bourgeois's famous Maman spider sculpture. The web draped over her body in spirals, with nude underwear underneath, and she paired it with clear pointed-toe pumps.
Her beauty look was just as spooky. Makeup artist Ernesto Casillas gave her long, spider-leg lashes, bold white eyeshadow and little white gems around her eyes, plus thin 1920s-style brows. A crimson manicure finished it off. Halloween came early this year, and honestly, it's a total gothic aesthetic moment.
Doja also took the stage later that night to perform.
