Anna Sui's Fall Winter 2024-2025 Collection Charms Audiences at New York Fashion Week FW24
Discover the timeless blend of '90s grunge & literary elegance in Anna Sui's FW24 show with celebs like Marc Jacobs & Sofia Coppola in awe.
Anna Sui's fall 2024 show drew an impressive crowd, with notable figures like Debbie Harry, David Johansen, Marc Jacobs, Sofia Coppola, and Thomas Mars in attendance at the Strand’s Rare Book Room. While Gen Z may have their influencers, Sui attracts people of influence.
For her fall collection, Sui drew inspiration from Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and the first editions of Virginia Woolf. She infused these references with her signature ’90s grunge aesthetic, accompanied by a soundtrack featuring hits by Sonic Youth, the Breeders, Smashing Pumpkins, and Elastica. The result was a multi-layered homage to fashion history, blending elements from the past with contemporary trends.
Sui's keen eye for vintage and street style was evident throughout the collection. She incorporated souvenir scarves and hand-dyed retro slips from Eveliina, a vintage lingerie dealer, into her designs, adding a touch of nostalgia to her creations.
Among the standout pieces were a panné velvet Bloomsbury-blue flower print jacket and skirt paired with a Lurex rugby stripe tee, and a transparent paillette embroidered net tank paired with silver sequin pants. These looks seamlessly blended elements from the 1920s and the 2020s, demonstrating Sui's ability to make vintage references feel fresh and relevant.
The show left a lasting impression on the audience, with many reluctant to leave Sui's captivating time machine.
