Zendaya's appearance in Mugler's iconic robot suit at the London premiere of "Dune: Part Two" proved to be a resounding success for the brand, as revealed in a report by Launchmetrics released on Monday.
The archival ensemble from Mugler's fall 1995 collection caused a viral frenzy, contributing to a staggering $13.3 million in Media Impact Value (MIV) for the fashion house. A single Instagram post featuring Zendaya's look generated $152,000 in MIV, highlighting the significant impact of her outfit across print, online, and social media platforms.
Crafted with plexiglass cutouts and a chrome frame, Mugler's cyborg couture was a collaborative effort with artist Jean-Jacques Urcun, inspired by the sci-fi film "Metropolis." The jumpsuit, which took six months to construct, originally debuted on the runway during Mugler's 25th-anniversary show in Paris.
Previously showcased in the Brooklyn Museum's "Thierry Mugler: Couturissime" exhibition in 2022, the robot suit gained further acclaim when a custom version, designed by Mugler's current creative director Casey Cadwallader, was worn by Beyoncé during her "Renaissance World Tour" in June 2023.
For the London premiere of "Dune: Part Two," Zendaya's longtime stylist, Law Roach, curated her striking look, solidifying her status as a fashion icon. The highly anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic is currently thrilling audiences in theaters worldwide.
