Coperni Fall/Winter 2024-25 Fashion Show

In the past week, social media buzzed with sightings of a monolithic UFO in major cities worldwide. From New York to Naoshima and finally Paris, this mysterious object captured global attention. But it was more than just a UFO; it was a clever marketing ploy by French fashion brand Coperni for its latest collection.

On Monday night, the spectacle culminated with the monolith's "landing" at Coperni's runway show. This event was a playful nod to sci-fi classics, blending iconic imagery from "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." The designers, Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, masterfully illuminated the monolith while echoing the famous five-note motif, setting the stage for their fall collection reveal.

Coperni's collection was a treasure trove of cinematic and conspiracy theory references. A standout piece was the crinkled silver minidress, reminiscent of tinfoil hats and conspiratorial imagery. In a nod to the lizard people theory, the duo crafted suits from a patchwork of deadstock leather, ingeniously shaped into geometric designs.

The collection also featured knitwear with snap patterns, evoking the cyberpunk aesthetic of "The Matrix." Meanwhile, celebrities like Dua Lipa have already embraced similar styles from Coperni's pre-fall collection, including the label's new star-shaped shoes.

Despite its otherworldly inspirations, the collection remained grounded with accessible fashion pieces. A notable example was the black taffeta UFO dress, a fresh take on the classic Little Black Dress with an off-the-shoulder design and a stiff circle skirt.

Continuing their tradition of unique accessories, Coperni introduced a new edition of their signature Swipe bag. This iteration, developed by Prof. Ioannis Michaloudis, utilized silica aerogel—a nanomaterial used by NASA. Remarkably lightweight, the bag epitomizes the fusion of high fashion and high tech.
