Shawn Mendes Opens Up About Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello Love Triangle

Shawn Mendes has seemingly broken his silence on the rumored love triangle involving Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello.
In a preview of his appearance on John Mayer’s SiriusXM show How’s Life, Mendes reflected on a past relationship, admitting he reunited with an ex-girlfriend due to lingering “unresolved feelings.”
“Two days before going to hang with my ex, [I] express I’m going to hang with my ex because I have unresolved feelings,” Mendes said in the clip, adding that he now realizes he should have given more notice, perhaps “two weeks” instead of two days.
Mayer asked Mendes whether he felt he had handled the situation poorly. Mendes responded with a life lesson, saying, “No one gets out of this life without getting hurt, and no one gets out of this life without hurting someone.”
Though Mendes didn’t name anyone specifically, the timeline hints at the singer’s on-again, off-again relationships. He and Cabello dated from 2019 to 2021 and were rumored to have briefly rekindled their romance in 2023 after Mendes was linked to Carpenter.
In early 2023, Mendes and Carpenter sparked dating rumors when they were seen together in Los Angeles shortly after Valentine’s Day. By April, Mendes and Cabello stole the spotlight with a kiss at the Coachella music festival, followed by a date night at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in May.
The love triangle appeared to inspire music from both women. Carpenter’s track “Taste” from her album suggests frustration over a man torn between a past lover and a new romance:
“I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you…”
Similarly, Cabello’s TikTok featured her lip-syncing lyrics from “June Gloom,” rumored to address Carpenter:
“She’s cool, I heard / Won’t act surprised, I saw the pictures…”
Carpenter has since moved on, dating actor Barry Keoghan, though they recently split. Meanwhile, Mendes and Cabello reignited reconciliation rumors after being spotted together at the Copa América Final in July.
