Jennifer Love Hewitt Shuts Down Feud Rumors with Sarah Michelle Gellar

Jennifer Love Hewitt has addressed long-standing rumors of a feud with Sarah Michelle Gellar, revealing they haven’t spoken in nearly 30 years.

In a new Vulture interview, the 46-year-old actress clarified that she hasn’t seen or talked to Gellar since they filmed I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997.

"I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that came to be," Hewitt said of the rumored rift. "Why do we always have to be against each other? I haven’t seen Sarah since I was 18. People were like, ‘Say something back.’ And I’m like, ‘What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.’ On my side, we’re good."

Hewitt reprised her role as Julie James in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer installment released Friday. Freddie Prinze Jr. also returned as Ray Bronson, but Gellar only appeared briefly in a dream sequence since her character, Helen Shivers, was killed off in the first film.

At the movie’s premiere, Hewitt and Gellar didn’t cross paths. Gellar later explained on Instagram, “I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened, and she didn’t come to the after party.”

She added, “Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online.”

Rumors of tension reignited in December 2024 when Gellar ended an interview abruptly after being asked about Hewitt’s return. Gellar later explained she was avoiding breaking an NDA.

Despite fans speculating about bad blood, Hewitt says there’s no feud – just decades without contact.
