Emma Chamberlain Stars in J.Crew’s Tiny Rollneck Campaign
Emma Chamberlain stars in J.Crew’s Tiny Rollneck campaign, giving the iconic knit a Gen Z update with cropped fits, bold colors and playful prep.
Emma Chamberlain is giving one of J.Crew’s most recognizable knits a whole new personality. The internet personality, entrepreneur and fashion fixture fronts the brand’s newly launched Tiny Rollneck campaign, putting her own playful spin on a sweater with serious heritage.
The Tiny Rollneck is the latest evolution of J.Crew’s original Rollneck, a signature style first introduced in 1988. This time around, the proportions have been noticeably scaled down. The new version is fitted, slightly cropped and designed to sit closer to the body, bringing a younger, more energetic feel to the classic cotton knit. The launch arrived on August 26 as part of J.Crew’s continuing effort to reimagine the Rollneck for a new generation.
And Emma is clearly having fun with it.
One campaign look sees her in a soft pastel-pink Tiny Rollneck, styled with a dark mini skirt for a sweet but slightly unexpected take on preppy dressing. In another, she wears a creamy white version with a pleated gray skirt, argyle socks, loafers, slim rectangular glasses and a headband. The finished look has a bookish, schoolgirl-prep feel, but the shrunken proportions keep it from looking too traditional.
The styling gets sportier with a pink-and-navy striped version paired with tiny white shorts and scrunched-down socks. Elsewhere, a bright blue Rollneck is worn with loose tan trousers, oversized sunglasses and a printed scarf tied casually around the waist, while a golden retriever makes an equally memorable campaign companion.
Shot and directed by Ian Markell, the campaign places Emma inside a candy-colored, retro-futuristic world inspired by early-2000s fashion media, lo-fi digital imagery and video game character-selection screens. Jared Ellner, Emma’s longtime stylist, worked alongside J.Crew Creative Director Olympia Gayot to create the different personalities and looks, with Emma herself describing the shoot as a chance to play a new character with every change of sweater and styling.
That sense of playfulness is what makes the campaign work. From polished collegiate references to sporty separates and deliberately quirky accessories, Emma shows just how many directions the Tiny Rollneck can go. It is still unmistakably J.Crew, but with brighter colours, smaller proportions and a little more attitude.
The Tiny Rollneck collection is available in six solid colours and two striped options, with prices ranging from $98 to $118.
