Wendi Murdoch Wore Rust Saint Laurent Satin Dress With Schiaparelli Clutch to Lucas Museum Opening

Wendi Deng Murdoch chose an easy, elegant look for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opening night in Los Angeles on September 19. The businesswoman, who was married to media mogul Rupert Murdoch from 1999 to 2013, is a regular at big art and fashion events, and this gala was another good fit.

She wore a rust-orange Saint Laurent Draped Tank Dress in silk satin. It had a scooped neckline and wide straps, and the fabric was cut to skim the body before falling to the floor. The main design detail was the draping. Diagonal folds of satin crossed the front and again near the hem, so a simple slip shape had some movement. The burnt copper shade also looked great against the green wall and silver butterfly-style backdrop on the carpet.

Her shoes were Saint Laurent Dakota slingbacks, a pointed-toe pair in black with a small bow detail on top of the toe. They gave the warm dress a sharp, dark contrast. The standout accessory was her black velvet Schiaparelli mini clutch, embroidered with gold surrealist face motifs and trimmed with fringe. It's small, but it brought a lot of personality to an otherwise minimal outfit.

Jewelry credits haven't been shared, but she wore a fine pearl-style necklace, long drop earrings and a few slim bracelets, including a red one and a gold bangle. Her long dark hair was center-parted and worn in loose waves over one shoulder, and her makeup stayed soft and neutral with a rosy nude lip.

George Lucas and Mellody Hobson hosted the evening ahead of the museum's public opening on September 22. It has more than 1,300 objects on display across 30 galleries, including a Star Wars in Motion exhibition. Guests included Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Kim Kardashian and Alicia Keys.
