Elle Fanning in Gold Brocade Evan Clayton Skirt Suit and Satin Rosette Hat

Elle Fanning wasn’t done after the red carpet. After wearing a huge pink tulle gown to the London fan screening of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping on Wednesday, October 28, she changed into something completely different for the after-party. The new outfit is a gold-and-black brocade skirt suit from Evan Clayton’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection, called “PHYLLIS”.

Clayton is a Vancouver designer known for bold, theatrical clothes. He has made custom drag costumes and tour looks for artists including Allie X, and his work has shown in places like Vienna and Tokyo. A dramatic 1940s-meets-1980s suit fits that approach perfectly.

The fabric is the star. It’s a metallic jacquard woven with gold flowers and medallions over black velvet, with flashes of deep purple underneath. The jacket has strong, padded shoulders that stand up like a statement, a stand-up collar and a front lined with gold buttons, and a nipped-in waist with a small flare below. The matching pencil skirt hugs the hips and ends just below the knee. Every angle catches the light, so it looks almost like antique wallpaper in the best way. For her red-carpet entrance earlier that night, see Elle Fanning’s Robert Wun gown.

Elle Fanning Wears Evan Clayton PHYLLIS Suit With Padded Shoulders and Black Pumps

The hat is a small black pillbox topped with a big gold satin rosette, which matches the brocade. Her blonde hair was slicked back into a tidy high bun underneath it, so nothing distracted from the shape. Her makeup was classic, with soft, neutral eyes and a deep berry-red lip that looked great with the gold. Elle finished with black pointed pumps and a simple ring on her finger, because the suit didn’t need more.

It’s very Effie Trinket, which is probably the point. Her character in the new prequel is a Capitol girl who loves dramatic fashion, and Elle has worn a different over-the-top look at each stop on the press tour. She wore a red bow hat and a floral suit earlier in the week, which you can read about in Elle Fanning’s Vivienne Westwood suit.

For anyone catching up, Elle is the American actress known for Maleficent, The Great and A Complete Unknown. The film opens in UK cinemas on November 20.
