Hunter Schafer Wears a Custom Black Velvet Prada Gown With a White Slit to the 2026 Academy Museum Gala

Hunter Schafer went for old-school black tie at the Academy Museum Gala, with a twist. The Euphoria star wore a custom Prada gown in black velvet, inspired by the label’s Spring 2027 collection. Dara styled the look.

It’s a strapless column with a soft, sculpted sweetheart neckline, and the velvet hugs her from the bust to the floor. The fun part is the skirt. A slit opens at the hip, held by a wide black satin ribbon, and a bow sits right at the top of it. Behind the opening there’s a panel of ivory georgette, pleated and floaty. When she stood still it looked like a black dress. When she moved, the white showed up, which made the whole thing feel like a tuxedo that’s been romanticised.

Accessories were small and a little bit loud. She wore long pink gemstone drop earrings, which popped against the black, and her nails were bright magenta to match. Her shoes were pointed white satin pumps, visible only when the slit opened.

Her hair was strawberry blonde, big and wavy, swept to one side and pinned over her shoulder in an old Hollywood style. Makeup was soft and glowy, with light liner and a pink lip.

Hunter has played Jules on HBO’s Euphoria since the start, and she’s back for season three. She was a model before acting, for brands like Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Versace. Next up are Mother Mary and the Prime Video series Blade Runner 2099, which premieres November 25. She’s also one of Prada’s favourite faces, and we saw her in the label’s Spring 2027 look at the Blade Runner 2099 panel just last week.

The sixth annual Academy Museum Gala took place Saturday night at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, and it raises money for the museum. Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo and John Carpenter were honoured, and Taylor Swift performed.
