Miss South Africa at the 2019 Miss Universe pageant

Miss South Africa, 26 year old Zozibini Tunzi was crowned the 2019 Miss Universe at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday. Hailing from South Africa, the newly crowned beauty queen spends her time working as an activist, and her biggest passions are ending gender-based violence, and promoting natural beauty among women.

This year's competition saw ninety women compete for the coveted title at the annual beauty pageant on Sunday, and Zozibini is the first black woman from her country to wear the Miss Universe crown. Also a firm believer in natural beauty and standing by the statement that women should "love themselves the way they are," according to the Miss Universe website, Zozibini was all smiles when she was named the winner, and pressed her hands together against her head and grinned.

Dazzling in a sleeveless figure-hugging beaded and sequinned shimmering gown, Miss South Africa was then given the Miss Universe sash, followed by the coveted crown, which was placed upon her head by Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, who previously served as Miss Philippines as well.

This year's crown is called the Power of Unity, and has been created by Mouawad Jewelry. Created from a jaw-dropping and luxurious 18-karat gold and 1,770 diamonds, it also includes a golden centerpiece stone weighing 62.83 carats. The floral design of the crown is meant to represent unity among women from all seven continents, and as whole, the statement design was inspired by nature, strength, beauty, femininity, and unity.

Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi looked glamorous in the headpiece, and its center stone matched her glittering dress perfectly. Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Mexico were tied up in the top three with Zozibini, and took home second and third place respectively.

This year's crown is called "Power of Unity."
