4 Habits For a Healthier Life

Living a healthy life just makes things simpler. Whether you're looking to get more physical activity into your daily life without the struggle, or you're just looking to avoid health problems in the future, living healthy can improve a myriad of different variables that can make your life easier and more fulfilling. Here are four tips on how to start living healthier today.

Track Your Calories

The adage you may hear from health professionals of "you can't outrun a bad diet" rings true. No matter what physical exercise you do in a day, or how many calories you might burn off, it can be almost impossible to burn as many calories as you eat in a day if you are not paying close attention. To find out how many calories you should be eating in a day, formulate your BMR, or your basal metabolic rate. The Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories that your body burns without doing any physical exercise. This rate will be the base amount of calories that your body needs to survive. Any movement or exercise above that will be the calories that your body expends during exercise, and this is called the TDEE. The Total Daily Energy Expenditure includes your BMR as well as all the other calories that you expend during the day.

Improve Your Diet

Focusing on your diet should be your main concern when it comes to losing weight and improving your health. Slow changes are the way to go because, before anything else, consistency is key when it comes to improving your diet. Whatever changes that you make to your diet should be changes that you can stay consistent with. Integrating diet changes by finding vegan lunch recipes and meals that you love and are healthier are a great way to stay on top of your diet.

Get More Exercise

Integrating an exercise routine into your daily life can contribute to fewer health problems, more weight loss, and a more functional body. Much like a healthy diet, finding an exercise routine that you can stick to is more important than finding an intensive one. If you're not a gym person or not interested in going running, find more places to walk or start roller skating. Enjoying your exercise is just another way to ensure that you stick to it for longer periods.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness and meditation are essential components to your mental health. Mindfulness is a practice where you concentrate on looking at yourself through the perspective of a third party, or a more objective lens. By looking at yourself and your life from an outside view, you give yourself more space to process and be more compassionate with yourself. Meditation gives you the practice to concentrate on regulating your emotions by letting yourself feel things outside of the situation so that you have time to practice regulating that emotion. By practicing meditation, you'll be less reactive and much more likely to facilitate healthier relationships both with other people and yourself.
