Sofia Coppola’s Marc Jacobs Documentary Set for Venice Premiere

Sofia Coppola has quietly filmed Marc by Sofia, a new documentary about her longtime friend Marc Jacobs, set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month. While the project flew under the radar until today’s announcement, the creative pairing isn’t surprising.

Coppola and Jacobs share a history spanning over two decades. She first appeared in Juergen Teller’s 2002 campaign for his fragrance, helped design bags during his Louis Vuitton era, starred in his Fall 2015 campaign, collaborated with the youth-focused Heaven line, and directed the Daisy perfume film. Their work has always blended Coppola’s understated visuals with Jacobs’s pop glamour.

Marc by Sofia will turn their shared archive into a feature documentary. Details remain under wraps, but the film promises an intimate portrait from Coppola’s firsthand perspective rather than a distant overview.

For Jacobs, who often weaves friends and muses into his brand narrative, this marks another cultural chapter beyond fashion runways. For Coppola, it’s a return to a subject she knows deeply both on and off camera. The Venice debut next month will reveal how their story unfolds on screen.
